I love going to 202 Restaurant for brunch in Notting Hill. I have been to Granger, Daylesford and this is my third time at 202 Restaurant, and I now think 202 serves the best brunch in Notting Hill. I guess Granger is great but I just hate waiting outside for a table and don’t think it is worth it for getting there before 10am.
My friend Daniela just moved to London a month ago and had not been to Notting Hill, and she loves buzzy places, good food and people watching, so 202 worked perfectly. They also always have a long line of people waiting, and you are not allowed to give your name and go shopping…but at least it is indoors and unless you go alone, you can take turn spending some time at the shop downstairs……
What we ate:
Banana and peanut butter muffin: was one of their specials and since we were starving, we ordered it as a pre-meal snack or second breakfast. It was very good, the banana was fresh, it was a very generous portion and the peanut butter topping was divine. We devoured it.
The healthy lunch: this is what they call toast with steamed spinach, tomatoes, avocados and poached eggs. It could have been healthy but certainly not low calorie as it was a large serving and they probably sliced a whole avocado onto it, plus some French dressing. But I don’t order this as the healthy option, but because I love the combination. And it was very good.
Lamb burger with goat cheese: we had this before and both Stewart and Daniela ordered it. Very, very good. Tasty lamb and a thick, creamy layer of goat cheese. The only negative was that the yucca “fries” were not as tasty as traditional or sweet potato chips (aka fries).
Vanilla cheesecake with berries: Dani said she is in the midst of a cheesecake odyssey, sailing around the world to identify the best ones, so we had to try the one at 202 and see how it ranked. I can confirm that it was a fine specimen, with lots of speckles of vanilla beans throughout and very creamy. The berry sauce on the side was not too sweet and provided a great balance.
In sum: if you are in NH and want some tasty brunch food and good people watching, 202 is one of the best choices. I also had major food envy and kept staring at what others were eating. The asparagus risotto looked fantastic and so did one of the chocolate desserts.
