As part of exploring our new neighbourhood, I have been trying new exercise classes and then rewarding myself with tasty brunch on weekends. This Sunday we tried a TRX class at Heartcore and after feeling like the less fit two people on earth as we were surrounded by cropped tops and six pack abs, we went for what we told ourselves was a well-deserved brunch.
We headed to whole foods and on the way passed two cute spots next to each other serving brunch. After studying the menu, we decided to try Chairs and Coffee, a quirky and adorable Italian coffee focused shop serving very tantalizing pastries at the entrance.
What we ate:
Scrambled eggs on toast with chorizo and blue cheese: of course this was Stewart’s order as he loves chorizo and any type of sausage. I thought the strong flavour would clash with the blue cheese but they actually worked very well together. I tend to like my scrambled eggs not too wet but Chairs and Coffee may have changed me to a runny scrambled eggs lover.
Scrambled eggs on toast with taleggio and mushrooms: Stewart to Chorizo is like I am with mushrooms – I always order anything with mushrooms when I spot it on a menu. They were cooked perfectly and the dollops of melty taleggio on the runny eggs worked marvelously. We also ordered a side of avocado and they served them in large cubes, with lemon and chillies. Ripe and delicious.
As we consumed our eggs, we continuously got whiffs of toasted banana bread from other orders around the restaurant. We obviously couldn’t resist and as we still had the illusion we had burned zillions of calories jumping up and down and squatting during TRX, we took one to go for an afternoon snack.
Still as we walked to Whole Foods, we stopped once more as Stewart wanted to show me some cute places he had discovered on his previous explorations of the new area. We peaked into Shot, a coffee place and then the place right across Ice and Slice, also owned by Shot. As we tasted the gelatos, Stewart couldn’t resist and had an expresso flavoured one, delicious. I sampled their pistachio gelato and it was one of the best gelatos I have tried in ages, we must go back, maybe after next week’s TRX.
In sum: Chairs and Coffee is adorable. They have a tiny kitchen and a limited menu but everything is well executed, and served with a smile!
Ps: the only reason I didn’t give food a higher rating is because the menu is a bit too limited
