When my friend Javier came to town recently, we made plans to meet up for coffee on a Saturday morning. Javi then told me we needed to change to a different Blue Bottle location so we could have Guerrilla tacos when they parked outside at 10am. Even though tacos for breakfast are not my ideal food I also was dying to try Guerrilla….
We sat for delicious coffees and drooled over the food around us at Blue Bottle enviously starring as other patrons ate toast with almond butter and oatmeal (more my type of breakfast). But we lingered around until 11am and suddenly were very ready for tacos.
We decided to try their entire menu. I found the tacos a bit wet, hard to pick up and the tortillas slightly greasy. The sweet potato taco was solid and their yellowtail tostada (with added uni of course) was very fresh and good.
The torta (aka sandwich) was heavy but not surprising considering it had chicken milanesa inside.
I loved their strawberry aqua fresca and even though I wasn’t crazy about the tacos I would give it another shot if I ever stumble on them again and they have new items on the menu (they change daily).
In sum: Are Guerrilla Tacos the Best Tacos in LA? Not in my book…..the search continues.
